THIRST is the WORST

Oscar lives in a desert.  Oscar is gecko.  A gecko is a lizard.  There is very little water is a desert, so it is very dry. 

Oscar is very thirsty.  He looks everywhere for water.  He looks in a garbage pile. But he falls into the garbage when he is trying to lift a bottle.  He gets a bottle opener stuck around his neck. He pulls and pulls until he gets the bottle opener off from around his neck.

Oscar goes in search of water elsewhere.

He comes to a paved road. It is so hot that it is burning the pads of his feet. Oscar is hot, very thirsty and very unhappy, and then he looks up and sees a billboard. The billboard shows a man and woman drinking water.  Then, Oscar sees a whole case of bottled water. He is thrilled. He jumps on a bottle and tries licking the lid off, but that doesn’t work. Then, he tries to pull the bottle cap off with his hands and feet, but that doesn’t work. He tries pulling it off with his mouth, but that doesn’t work either. So, he starts rocking the bottle back and forth and it goes flying. Oscar cannot see where it went, but it lands on his hand and flattens it. Oscar wails and pulls his hand out from under the heavy water bottle. He jumps around yelping painfully. Oscar is very hurt and sad, but then he sees that the man in the picture is opening the water bottle with the same thing that Oscar got around his neck when he was looking for water in the rubbish.

Oscar makes a plan. He gets the bottle of water and starts rolling it away. He is taking it back to where he left the bottle opener. Oscar has to take it down a narrow pathway on a steep slope. It is very difficult to do.  A couple of flies start buzzing around Oscar’s head. Because Oscar is a gecko, flies are a meal for him. Oscar gets so excited and eager to catch the fly as he is very hungry as well as thirsty.  He tries to catch a fly with his tongue three times, but he misses all three times, and he loses contact with the water bottle on his third try.  The water bottle starts moving on its own.  It starts rolling, and it rolls right over him, but he sticks to it.  So now, Oscar is rolling out of control down the hill around the outside of the water bottle. It flies off the pathway and hits a cactus.

Oscar is knocked off the cactus and lands on the ground, but the nose of the water bottle is stuck at the top of the cactus, but it begins to fall. Oscar tries to stop it and manages to get wrapped around the water bottle in the process.

Finally, Oscar is back on his way to the garbage pile, but still he runs into more bad luck as he is rolling the water bottle across a natural sand bridge, the bridge starts to break, because Oscar and the bottle are too heavy for it.  But Oscar manages to get the water bottle and himself across without falling into the gully. Oscar makes it back to the garbage pile and eyes the bottle opener. He pulls and pulls on the bottle cap with the bottle opener, but the cap will not come off, so he tries hitting the lid with the bottle opener.  Then, three ominous shadows hover over him. He is scared as he looks up to see who it is.
